Sonne: the AI operating system behind our home care service

Sonne takes the desk work off our hands: it reads requests from hospitals, sorts emails, tracks prescriptions and plans the nurses' rounds. The care itself stays with people.

Try Sonne

A home care service works half at the bedside and half at the desk: discharge requests from hospitals, prescriptions with expiry dates, doctors' letters in the inbox, round plans that change every day. Every task left undone ends up affecting a patient — as a delayed start of care or as an expired prescription.

That is why we built Sonne, our own AI operating system. Sonne runs in the background of our office in Berlin and handles the recurring work: reading, sorting, assigning, reminding, planning. Anything that needs a decision, Sonne puts in front of a person.

For you as a patient or relative, this means: faster confirmations after a hospital stay, visits that take place at the agreed time, and nurses who spend their time with you instead of in the office.

What Sonne has done so far

  • 908 discharge requests from 27 hospitals read and checked, in 114 days
  • 2 seconds until a suitable request is accepted (median)
  • 3,157 emails read, 839 of them turned into tasks
  • 154 documents from 571 attachments filed in the right folder
  • 57 prescriptions for 27 patients read, expiry dates monitored
  • 1,383 planned and completed visits for 31 patients in 85 days
  • 107 of 185 proposed round plans adopted
  • 0 open of 377 visits in a 20-day re-planning, 0.4 seconds per day

Periods: hospital requests 2 July–23 October 2026, emails 8 July–23 October 2026, visits 31 July–23 October 2026, round proposals 6 September–23 October 2026. The re-planning is a test run over past days (2–21 October 2026), not live operation.

What Sonne does for us

Reading and answering hospital requests

Sonne reads every discharge request, checks the distance and the services requested, and accepts suitable requests straight away. Requests that do not fit are set aside with a reason.

Sorting emails and attachments

Sonne summarises every email, separates advertising from what matters, turns doctors' letters and queries into tasks, and files documents in the right folder.

Tracking prescriptions

Sonne reads every prescription for home nursing care (Verordnung häusliche Krankenpflege), matches it to the services and warns before it expires, so that the follow-up prescription (Folgeverordnung) arrives in time.

Planning rounds

Sonne plans all of a day's visits together: fixed times first, insulin and medication at the right intervals, short routes, the nurses' working hours.

Preparing documents

Sonne drafts quotes, care plans, wound documentation and reports, and marks where information is missing. A registered nurse (Pflegefachkraft) checks and signs.

Taking calls and WhatsApp messages

Sonne takes down requests by phone and WhatsApp, creates tasks from them and passes anything urgent to a person straight away.

Checking billing

Sonne compares completed visits with prescriptions and service records (Leistungsnachweise) and reports gaps before the bill goes to the insurance fund (Kasse).

Keeping track of tasks

Every task from an email, a call or a prescription goes onto a list with the patient, the deadline and the person responsible. That way nothing gets lost in the inbox.

How Sonne works with our team

  1. Sonne reads: Requests, emails, attachments, prescriptions and the nurses' notes arrive in one place.
  2. Sonne assigns: Every document and every task is assigned to the right patient and the right deadline.
  3. Sonne suggests: Round plans, draft documents and replies are ready as proposals, with a reason for every decision.
  4. A person decides: The nursing manager (Pflegedienstleitung) accepts, changes or rejects the proposal. Nurses provide care, management makes the decisions.

Our rules for Sonne

  • Sonne does not provide care. Every visit to your home is carried out by a nurse.
  • Medical and nursing decisions are always made by a registered nurse or by your doctor.
  • Patient data is processed only for your care, in line with the rules of our privacy policy.
  • Every proposal from Sonne comes with a reason and can be changed by a person.

Frequently asked questions about Sonne

What is Sonne?

Sonne is the AI operating system we developed ourselves for our home care service in Berlin. It reads requests, emails and prescriptions, plans rounds and prepares documents. Decisions are always made by a person.

Does Sonne replace nurses?

No. Sonne takes over office work such as reading, sorting, planning and reminding. Every visit to your home is carried out by a nurse, and every nursing decision is made by a registered nurse.

How quickly does Sonne respond to a request from a hospital?

If a discharge request fits our service area and our services, Sonne accepts it after a median of 2 seconds. Measured across 164 acceptances between 2 July and 23 October 2026: 158 of them came within 10 seconds.

What happens to my data?

Sonne works with the data we keep for your care anyway: prescriptions, doctors' letters, visit schedules. It is not used for anything else. How and where it is processed is set out in our privacy policy.

Will I notice Sonne as a patient?

Yes, indirectly: confirmations after a hospital stay come faster, prescriptions do not expire unnoticed, and round planning keeps to the agreed times for insulin and medication. Your contacts remain our nurses and our office.

Is Sonne the same Sonne as the conversation companion on our website?

Both have the same name. The AI operating system works in the background of our office. The conversation companion at /sonne is there for you: it listens, tells stories and plays games with you.
