Home Care Charlottenburg – nursing care in your own flat
We look after people in the Charlottenburg district at home: personal care (Grundpflege), doctor-prescribed treatment, wound care and companionship. The neighbouring districts of Westend and Charlottenburg-Nord belong to our area as well. We do not run an office in the district itself, but we have one to the south of it in Halensee and one to the west of it in Westend. We are taking on new clients: 030 64828209.
Charlottenburg, Westend and Charlottenburg-Nord are three separate districts, not one – and for route planning that makes a considerable difference. From the office at Heilbronner Str. 1 in Halensee our nurses drive north: into the Klausenerplatz-Kiez, to Savignyplatz, to the Lietzensee. The second office at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 stands in the Westend district, at the top end of the Kaiserdamm – from there the Reichsstraße and the Brixplatz are a few minutes away. Charlottenburg-Nord, by contrast, we serve from the main office at Sickingenstr. 52 in Moabit – Halemweg and Heckerdamm are considerably closer from there than from Halensee, which would put eight kilometres right across the borough in between. We have no address in the Charlottenburg district itself; the short journeys come from this division of the area, not from a sign on a front door.
The provider is Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt). For care benefits in kind there is a supply contract under SGB XI; for medical measures we hold the approval for home nursing care under § 37 SGB V. If you are insured under the statutory system you receive no invoice from us – we bill the health insurer (Krankenkasse) or the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) directly. Anyone insured privately receives a receipt for their own policy. We work in German, English and Russian, which helps when a medication plan and letters from the insurer have to reach different members of one family in different languages.
When a hospital's discharge management gets in touch, it has a yes or a no the same working day. Before the first visit we come to you free of charge, get an impression of the flat, the bathroom and the stairwell, and note down what is really needed: morning care, dressing changes, insulin, an escort to the doctor. Only then is the care schedule drawn up – and it is put in writing before anyone signs.
The visits we drive around the Kaiserdamm
Washing, dressing, getting up
Personal care at the basin or under the shower, skin care, dressing and the way out of bed – at the pace you set. For narrow period-building bathrooms around Klausenerplatz we allow extra minutes.
Injections, catheters, ports
Subcutaneous injections, care of port systems, bladder catheters and stomas, compression stockings from class II upwards. Whatever the surgery orders we carry out, and every visit is signed off in writing.
Dressing changes at home
Chronic wounds as well as fresh surgical scars, treated at the prescribed intervals. We record wound size, wound edge and exudate and send the findings to the treating practice.
Time for family carers
A turn around the Lietzensee, an escort to doctor's and council appointments, someone to talk to – paid for out of the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) from the long-term care insurance fund, which § 45b SGB XI provides from care level (Pflegegrad) 1 onwards.
Charlottenburg and the two neighbouring districts
We drive to all three – Charlottenburg, Westend and Charlottenburg-Nord – as what they are: three separate districts with their own postcodes. Which round covers you is decided by the postcode, not by the name of the Kiez.

What the insurers cover and what is left for you
Two insurers, two separate routes. From care level 2 the long-term care insurance fund pays for personal care, companionship and domestic help out of the monthly benefit-in-kind amount (§ 36 SGB XI); with care level 1 that amount is not available, but the relief amount under § 45b SGB XI is. Doctor-prescribed home nursing care, by contrast, is borne by the health insurer, and from the very day the prescription (Verordnung) was issued – provided it reaches the insurer by the third following working day at the latest (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). You therefore do not have to sit idle until a letter of approval arrives.
Adults also contribute, as § 61 SGB V requires: ten per cent of what a day of treatment costs, on at most 28 days in a calendar year; a one-off ten euros per prescription issued is added to that. If your insurer has issued an exemption notice, you need only show it to us once. Figures for the care itself we quote only when the scope of services is settled – the planned visits are listed for you beforehand, in writing and with no small print. Whether care allowance (Pflegegeld) and benefits in kind can sensibly be combined in your case is something we work out at the home visit.
How care in Charlottenburg begins
- You give us the address: A call to 030 64828209, or a line to info@sonnenstrahlen-pflege.de. With the street and the postcode it is immediately clear whether you live in Charlottenburg, in Westend or in Charlottenburg-Nord – and which office drives the round.
- We come out to Charlottenburg: A qualified nurse sits at your table, looks at the bathroom, the bedroom and the entrance to the building, and notes which visit is needed at which time of day. We charge nothing for this appointment.
- Forms and deadlines: We check the care level and the prescription, submit the paperwork to the health insurer on time and handle the correspondence. If no care level has been granted yet, we start with the application.
- A fixed slot in the round: You get firm times and a small team that after a few days knows which doorbell is yours and where the light switch is in the hallway.
Questions from Charlottenburg
What costs should I expect in Charlottenburg?
A flat figure would be guesswork. What matters is the care level, the number and the length of the visits, and whether a service is doctor-prescribed or runs through the long-term care insurance fund. After the home visit you receive the planned services listed in writing. It states which share the insurers cover and whether any contribution is left for you.
Will I get an invoice from you?
Not if you are insured under the statutory system: care benefits in kind under SGB XI and home nursing care under SGB V go straight to the relevant funding body. Private insurance works on the reimbursement principle – there you receive our receipt and submit it to your own insurer, and where applicable to the Beihilfe office (civil servants' allowance) as well.
Are you taking on new patients in Charlottenburg at the moment?
Yes, there is room in the rounds. We answer your enquiry the same working day and suggest a date for the free home visit. Services via the care level start shortly afterwards. Prescribed treatment care (Behandlungspflege) can also begin at once: the health insurer covers it from the day the prescription was issued, provided we submit it by the third working day after that – there is no need to wait for a letter of approval.
Which postcodes do you cover around Charlottenburg?
In the Charlottenburg district they are 10585, 10587, 10589, 10623, 10625, 10627, 10629, 14057 and 14059 – so the Klausenerplatz-Kiez, the quarter by the palace, Savignyplatz, Karl-August-Platz, Stuttgarter Platz, Lietzensee and Kaiserdamm. The neighbouring district of Westend adds 14050, 14052, 14053 and 14055, Charlottenburg-Nord 13627. Next to these we also cover Halensee, Wilmersdorf and Moabit; Siemensstadt lies on the boundary with Charlottenburg-Nord and is served from there.
Can you make yourselves understood with my mother in Russian or English?
Yes – besides German, English and Russian are spoken in the team. Medication plans, prescriptions and letters from the insurers we explain in the language actually spoken in the flat. It is best to tell us what you need right at the start; we build it into the duty roster as far as staffing allows. It is not a guarantee for every single visit.
How do I get a prescription for home nursing care?
It is issued by the treating practice, or by the hospital after a stay in one. The Muster 12 form sets out which measure is needed, how often and over what period; if anything is missing we raise it beforehand so the paperwork does not come back. We pass it on to the health insurer, and because we keep to the three-day deadline the visits are covered from the date of issue. Without a prescription, treatment care cannot be billed to the insurer, though it is possible as a self-funded service.
