Home care in Tiergarten: nursing in the Lützowviertel and around the Großer Tiergarten

Most of the district is park; the care happens in the residential streets around it — Lützowviertel, Magdeburger Platz, Diplomatenviertel, Potsdamer Platz. Two postcodes, 10785 and 10787. We are taking on new clients: 030 64828209.

Say Tiergarten and most people mean the 210 hectares between the Brandenburger Tor and the Großer Stern. The district is bigger than the park, but people live only along its edge: in the Lützowviertel around Magdeburger Platz, in the post-war terraces on Kluckstraße and Pohlstraße, in the Diplomatenviertel on Stülerstraße and Rauchstraße, in the buildings behind Potsdamer Platz. Around 15,000 people live here, spread in a ring around a green centre — and that shapes every round we plan, because two addresses can sit close together on the map and still cost a detour around the park. Our main office is four kilometres to the north, Sickingenstr. 52 in Moabit, and the early rounds cross the Spree to get here.

The service is run by Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt), approved for care benefits in kind under SGB XI and for doctor-prescribed home nursing (Behandlungspflege) under § 37 SGB V. People with statutory insurance never receive a bill from us; we invoice the health insurer (Krankenkasse) and the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) directly. Privately insured clients receive an invoice for the visits made and submit it to their policy. We work in German, English and Russian — in the Diplomatenviertel English is often the language in which a dosage actually gets through. We answer enquiries the same working day.

This page covers the Tiergarten district only. The Hansaviertel with postcode 10557 and the district of Moabit have pages of their own; south of the Landwehrkanal Schöneberg begins, which we also serve, but do not run as Tiergarten.

What we drive between Lützowplatz and the Kulturforum

The early shift in a post-war block

Washing at the basin or in the shower, dressing, the walk from bed to armchair. Unlike Moabit's old tenements there is often a lift here — but gateways, concierge desks and second keys cost time, and we plan for that.

Everything written on the Muster 12

Insulin to schedule, changes of dressing, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, compression stockings from class II upwards, catheters and stoma care. If the practice changes the order, we work to the new one from the next visit on.

Wound care instead of a trip to the surgery

Ulcus cruris, pressure sores, sutures after an operation — treated at the prescribed interval and documented by size, wound edge and exudate. For anyone unsteady on their feet, that saves the walk across the park.

Hours in which relatives are off duty

A turn along the Landwehrkanal, company on a shopping trip on Potsdamer Straße, an afternoon's companionship. This is paid from the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI, which is available from care level (Pflegegrad) 1 onwards.

Two postcodes, one district

The district carries 10785 and 10787. Most of the housing sits under 10785: Lützowplatz, Magdeburger Platz, Genthiner Straße, Kluckstraße, Pohlstraße, plus the Schöneberger Ufer and the buildings at Potsdamer Platz. 10787 covers the Diplomatenviertel on Stülerstraße, Rauchstraße and Klingelhöferstraße as well as Budapester Straße by the Zoo. The Großer Tiergarten itself has no residential addresses. The Hansaviertel with 10557 does not belong here but to the page on the Mitte district, and south of the Landwehrkanal we drive as Schöneberg. Whether your street lies on one of our rounds is settled in two minutes on the phone: 030 64828209.

What is covered, from when and by whom

Prescribed Behandlungspflege is paid for by the health insurer (Krankenkasse), and the day that counts is the day the practice signs. If we submit the Muster 12 to the insurer within three working days of it being issued, the visits are covered retrospectively from the day of issue — including those made while it is still being assessed (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). Waiting for the decision only loses time. Adults pay, under § 61 SGB V, ten per cent of the daily cost for at most 28 treatment days a year, plus ten euros per prescription (Verordnung); anyone exempt from co-payments pays none of it.

With the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) it is not the prescription that counts but the care level (Pflegegrad). The benefits-in-kind budget under § 36 SGB XI is available from care level 2 and covers personal care (Grundpflege), housekeeping and companionship; at care level 1 the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI remains. What it will actually cost you we say only after the free home visit — in writing, with the insurer's share and your own share shown separately.

From the phone call to the first early shift

  1. You tell us what is needed: One call to 030 64828209 is enough. With the street and house number it is clear straight away whether your address is on the Tiergarten round or already across the canal in Schöneberg.
  2. A home visit, usually the same week: A qualified nurse looks at the bathroom, the access and the entry phone, and notes which tasks are needed at which time of day. The visit costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
  3. The Muster 12 goes off at once: We take the Verordnung to the health insurer within three working days, so that cover starts on the day it was issued. If there is no Pflegegrad yet, we file the application with the Pflegekasse in parallel.
  4. The first shift rings your bell: You get firm times and a small, settled team; your named nurse comes along on the first visit.

From the Lützowviertel to Magdeburger Platz

Which Tiergarten addresses do you visit regularly?

Both postcodes of the district: 10785 around Lützowplatz, Magdeburger Platz, Kluckstraße and Potsdamer Platz, and 10787 in the Diplomatenviertel and on Budapester Straße. The Hansaviertel with 10557 is on the page for the Mitte district. We are out south of the Landwehrkanal as well, but there we drive as Schöneberg.

Do we have to wait for the insurer's approval?

No. As soon as the practice has signed the Muster 12, we may start. If the form reaches the health insurer by the third working day after that, the insurer covers the cost retrospectively from the day of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). This does not apply to personal care and companionship — there the Pflegegrad decides.

Without a recognised Pflegegrad — is anything still possible?

Behandlungspflege yes, it depends solely on the doctor's prescription. Personal care and companionship require an assessment: care benefits in kind under § 36 SGB XI from care level 2, and at care level 1 the Entlastungsbetrag under § 45b SGB XI. We fill in the application together and tell you beforehand what the Medizinischer Dienst will ask about.

How do you get into the flat when nobody can open the door?

There is a lift here more often than in Moabit's old buildings, but a gateway, a concierge or a locked courtyard entrance stands between the street and the flat door. So access has to be settled: a key with relatives, a key safe at the door, or a firm arrangement with the reception desk. Otherwise the early shift is left standing outside.

Hardly any German is spoken at home — does that work?

Our nurses work in German, English and Russian. Around the embassies in particular, that often decides whether a dosage instruction is really understood. Tell us your preferred language when you register; whether it can be staffed on every single round is decided in the end by the rota.

Where is the office, and do you work at night?

Your care is planned at Sickingenstr. 52, 10553 Berlin-Moabit, four kilometres north — by appointment only, please. There are two further offices in the west: Heilbronner Str. 1 in Halensee and Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 in Westend. We do not work nights.
