Home care in Grunewald: nursing care in the villa colony

Large plots, long driveways, gates with an intercom — in Grunewald, access is what decides whether the early shift arrives on time. We sort it out beforehand. We are taking on new clients: 030 64828209.

Grunewald is the locality with the longest distances in our area. Between Hagenplatz, Koenigsallee, Johannaplatz and the lakeside streets at Herthasee and Dianasee, individual addresses can lie a kilometre apart, and there can be another fifty metres of driveway between the bell and the front door. For route planning that means fewer visits per hour but longer ones — which suits this part of town anyway, because whole mornings are needed here more often than three short drop-ins.

The service is run by Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt), approved for care benefits in kind under SGB XI and for medically prescribed home nursing care (Behandlungspflege) under § 37 SGB V. People with statutory cover receive no invoice from us; we bill the health insurer (Krankenkasse) and the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) directly. Privately insured clients — the majority in Grunewald — receive a clear breakdown of the visits actually made for their policy, and an estimate of the costs in advance on request. We work in German, English and Russian.

Grunewald is served from our office at Heilbronner Str. 1 in Halensee. This page covers the locality of Grunewald only; Schmargendorf, Dahlem and Westend have pages of their own.

What we provide between Hagenplatz and Herthasee

The early shift in a house with an internal staircase

Washing, dressing, the way from the bed downstairs. A lift is rare, but the stairs are usually wide — during the home visit we check whether the bathroom and the bedroom are on the same floor, and where a grab rail would make things safer.

Everything set out on the Muster 12 prescription

Insulin to schedule, dressing changes, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, compression stockings from class II upwards, catheters and stoma care. The doctor prescribes; we work to the new instruction from the very next visit.

Wound care at home

Ulcus cruris, pressure sores, sutures after an operation — treated at the prescribed interval and documented by size, wound edge and exudate. Anyone unsteady on their feet is spared the trip to the surgery entirely.

Longer support visits

A morning with company, an escort to the doctor or a walk to the Hundekehlesee. Through the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) this runs from care level (Pflegegrad) 2 as a benefit in kind under § 36 SGB XI, and below that through the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI; beyond that, privately as well.

Where Grunewald begins and ends

The residential part of the locality carries the postcodes 14193 and 14195. We drive to Hagenplatz and Bismarckallee, the Koenigsallee, Johannaplatz, the lakeside streets at Herthasee, Dianasee and Koenigssee, Winkler Straße and Trabener Straße, the Hubertusallee, Douglasstraße and Erdener Straße. The forest itself has no residential addresses. Schmargendorf adjoins to the east, Dahlem to the south, and to the north, beyond the railway, Westend — we serve all three as well. Whether your street falls on one of our rounds is something we can settle on the phone: 030 64828209.

What is covered, from when and by whom

For prescribed medical home nursing (Behandlungspflege), the health insurer (Krankenkasse) pays for people with statutory cover. What matters is the day the surgery signs: if the Muster 12 reaches the insurer within three working days of being issued, the visits made while it is being assessed are also covered retrospectively from the date of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). Adults pay ten per cent of the daily cost under § 61 SGB V for a maximum of 28 treatment days a year, plus ten euros per prescription (Verordnung).

Privately insured clients and those entitled to Beihilfe (public-sector assistance) receive an invoice from us for the visits actually made, itemised by service and date, so that reimbursement under their policy does not founder on the paperwork. Anyone going through the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) needs a care level (Pflegegrad): benefits in kind under § 36 SGB XI from care level 2, and at care level 1 the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI. We give a dependable figure after the free home visit, in writing and split into the insurer's share and your own.

From the first call to the first early shift

  1. You tell us what is needed: One call to 030 64828209 is enough. With the street and house number it is immediately clear whether your address is in Grunewald or already in Schmargendorf or Dahlem.
  2. A home visit, usually in the same week: A qualified nurse looks at the bathroom, the stairs, the driveway and the intercom, and notes which tasks are needed at which time of day. The visit costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
  3. The prescription and the access are sorted out: We take the Muster 12 to the health insurer (Krankenkasse) within three working days. At the same time we record in writing how the gate is opened — key safe, code or housekeeper.
  4. The first shift rings your bell: You receive firm times and a small, settled team; the named nurse responsible for you comes along on the first visit.

From Hagenplatz to Koenigsallee

Which addresses in Grunewald do you visit regularly?

The residential area with the postcodes 14193 and 14195: Hagenplatz, Bismarckallee, Koenigsallee, Johannaplatz, the lakeside streets at Herthasee and Dianasee, Hubertusallee, Winkler Straße and Trabener Straße, Douglasstraße and Erdener Straße. Schmargendorf, Dahlem and Westend have pages of their own.

How do you get through the gate and up the driveway?

That is settled before the first visit and recorded in writing: gate code, key safe, a key with the housekeeper, or a firm arrangement with relatives. Where a dog runs loose in the garden, the file records how it is secured at visiting time. Without agreed access, the early shift is simply left standing at the gate.

We are privately insured — do you bill that way?

Yes. You receive an invoice for the visits made, itemised by service and date, which you submit to your policy or to Beihilfe. On request we estimate the monthly costs in advance, so that you can talk to your insurer before anything starts.

Are longer, uninterrupted visits possible?

Yes, and in Grunewald they are often the more sensible solution than three short ones. A morning covering personal care, breakfast and company can be planned; funding runs through the benefit in kind from care level (Pflegegrad) 2, through the Entlastungsbetrag, or privately.

Do we have to wait for the insurer's approval?

No. Once the surgery has signed the Muster 12 we may start. If the form reaches the health insurer (Krankenkasse) by the third working day thereafter, the insurer covers the costs retrospectively from the date of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie).

Where is the office, and do you work at night?

Your care is planned at Heilbronner Str. 1, 10711 Berlin-Halensee — by appointment only, please. There are further offices at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 in Westend and at Sickingenstr. 52 in Moabit. We do not work nights.
