Home care in Wilmersdorf: two offices, short journeys

Two of our three offices are in the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf: one in Halensee at Heilbronner Str. 1, one in the Westend locality at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1. From there we drive out to basic personal care (Grundpflege), prescribed nursing care (Behandlungspflege) and companionship visits. We can take on new clients – telephone 030 64828209.

Two offices in the district mean short journeys. From Heilbronner Str. 1 in Halensee our carers are quickly at Rathenauplatz and in Schmargendorf. The second office at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 sits in the Westend locality, at the top end of the Kaiserdamm; from there we cover the north of the district. A short journey means one thing for you: arrival times you can rely on.

Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt) is set up with the funds for both: a supply contract under SGB XI for care benefits in kind, and the authorisation to provide home nursing care under § 37 SGB V. With the statutory health insurers (Krankenkasse) and long-term care insurance funds (Pflegekasse) the billing runs directly. If you hold private insurance, our invoice goes to you and you submit it wherever you are insured. We work in three languages: German, English and Russian.

To the south-west the area runs across Schmargendorf and Rüdesheimer Platz (14197 and 14199) as far as Grunewald (14193) and Dahlem (14195). Before a hospital discharge we clarify the prescription (Verordnung), the care level (Pflegegrad) and the visit times in advance. We agree fixed times and a small team, so that a stranger is not standing at the door every morning. Hospital social services can reach us on 030 64828209.

Services for Wilmersdorf, Halensee and the south-west

Insulin, blood pressure, compression

Insulin given to the doctor's schedule, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, compression stockings from class II morning and evening – we carry out what the prescription (Verordnung) says and report anything unusual back to the practice.

Washing and basic personal care

Washing at the basin or under the shower, skin and mouth care, help with dressing and with getting around the flat – as a benefit in kind from the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) from care level (Pflegegrad) 2.

When relatives need a break

Reading aloud, walks in the Volkspark Wilmersdorf, accompaniment to the doctor at Fehrbelliner Platz – funded from the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) of the long-term care insurance fund.

First conversation and applications

The first appointment at your home costs nothing: we check the care level (Pflegegrad) and the prescription (Verordnung) and propose a schedule of visits.

Where we travel in the south-west

From Heilbronner Straße and from Theodor-Heuss-Platz we drive out to these Kieze and localities. If your address borders a neighbouring area, we can settle that on the phone.

Costs, budget and co-payment

Two payers, two logics. For medically prescribed measures – insulin, changes of dressing, compression – the health insurer (Krankenkasse) is liable, and its duty to pay begins on the very day the prescription (Verordnung) is issued. The only condition is that the form finds its way to the insurer within the following three working days; that also covers the time until the approval decision (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). There is, in other words, no waiting room for prescriptions. The second logic belongs to the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse): from care level (Pflegegrad) 2 it pays for personal care, domestic help and companionship out of the monthly benefit-in-kind amount under § 36 SGB XI; at care level 1 only the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI is available.

Adults face a co-payment twice over for home nursing care: ten euros are due for every prescription (Verordnung), and on a maximum of 28 treatment days per calendar year a further ten per cent of that day's costs is added. An exemption notice from your insurer suspends both. Privately insured clients receive our invoice and settle it under their own policy.

We do not name figures out of thin air. Only once the first conversation has established how often we come and what we do will you see in writing what the funds cover and whether a share is left for you. If the budget is not enough, we look at the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) and respite care (Verhinderungspflege).

How you get a place with us

  1. You get in touch: Describe the situation briefly – by telephone on 030 64828209 or in writing to info@sonnenstrahlen-pflege.de. The answer comes the same working day.
  2. An appointment at your home: A qualified nurse comes round, looks at the bathroom, the bedroom and the access, and notes which visits are needed at which times. From both offices we are there quickly.
  3. Prescription and insurer: If a doctor's prescription (Verordnung) exists, we submit it to your health insurer (Krankenkasse) within the deadline – that secures cover from the day it was issued. If there is no care level (Pflegegrad) yet, we help with the application.
  4. Care begins: We agree fixed times, introduce you to your named carer and add you to our round in the district.

From Wilmersdorf to Grunewald

Which postcodes do you cover in Wilmersdorf and the south-west?

We regularly drive to 10707, 10709, 10711, 10713, 10717 and 10719, and in the south-west to 14193, 14195, 14197 and 14199. That covers Halensee, Fasanenplatz, Olivaer Platz, Schmargendorf, Grunewald and Dahlem. Whether your street is included is something we can settle on the phone.

Why is an office in Halensee an advantage for me in Wilmersdorf?

Because the journey stays short. Heilbronner Str. 1 is in Halensee, a few minutes' drive south of Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 in the Westend locality. The two cover the area from opposite sides. That brings steadier arrival times and room for extra visits at short notice.

Do you bill my insurer, or do I get an invoice?

That depends on your insurance. People with statutory insurance see nothing of the billing: it runs between us and the relevant payer, and we send no invoice for these visits. Privately insured clients get the receipt from us and claim the reimbursement from their insurer.

When could you start with us?

We are able to take on new clients at present. After your call we arrange the appointment at your home promptly. Anything that runs through the care level (Pflegegrad) can then start at short notice. For services prescribed under SGB V the rule is: we start with the prescription (Verordnung) in hand and not only once the insurer has decided – if we submit the paper within the deadline, the care is covered from the date of issue.

Can you also speak with English- or Russian-speaking relatives?

Yes. Besides German, English and Russian are among the languages our carers speak. Where arrangements about medicines or prescriptions (Verordnungen) land more safely in one of them, we plan it that way where we can. Relatives outside Berlin can also speak to us in English or Russian on the phone.

What does a hospital social worker need in order to register a discharge with us?

It is best to get in touch while the patient is still in hospital. Useful things are the prescription for home nursing care (Verordnung häuslicher Krankenpflege), the discharge letter, a recognised care level (Pflegegrad) and a telephone number for relatives. Hospitals hear back from us on 030 64828209 the same working day.
