Home care in Spandau: nursing at home in Altstadt, Neustadt and Stresow

Until 1920 Spandau was a town in its own right, and it still feels like one: an old town (Altstadt) with its market square and the Kolk, a Neustadt across the Havel, Stresow by the station, and the residential quarters towards Wilhelmstadt. The distances are longer than in the inner city, but the layout is clear — a round can be planned cleanly along the Klosterstraße, Breite Straße and Falkenseer Chaussee axes. Anyone discharged from the Vivantes Klinikum Spandau usually needs follow-on care the next day; that is exactly what we keep capacity free for.

The service is run by Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt), approved for care benefits in kind under SGB XI and for doctor-prescribed home nursing care under § 37 SGB V. If you are insured with a statutory fund you never receive a bill from us; we settle directly with your health insurer (Krankenkasse) and long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse). Privately insured clients receive a statement of the visits made, for their policy. We work in German, English and Russian, and we answer enquiries the same working day.

Spandau is served from the office at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 in Westend, via Heerstraße or Spandauer Damm. Siemensstadt, east of Nonnendammallee, has a page of its own.

What we drive between the Kolk and Falkenseer Chaussee

The early shift in Altstadt and Neustadt

Washing, dressing, the walk from bed to armchair. In the Altstadt the stairs are narrow and old; in the Neustadt there is more often a lift — both change how long a visit takes, and both are written into the schedule.

Everything listed on the Muster 12

Insulin to schedule, dressing changes, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, compression stockings from class II upwards, catheters and stoma care. If the surgery changes the order, we follow the new one from the very next visit.

Taking over after hospital

After a discharge from the Vivantes Klinikum Spandau we take over dressings, medication and personal care at home. Get in touch while the ward is still planning — then the first shift is at your door the day after discharge.

Hours in which family carers are off duty

A walk along the Lindenufer, company on the way to the shops in Breite Straße, an afternoon with someone there. This is paid for out of the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI, which is available from care level (Pflegegrad) 1 upwards.

Where we travel in Spandau

We serve the postcodes 13581, 13583, 13585, 13587, 13597 and 13599 — that is the Altstadt around the Markt, Kolk and Behnitz, the Lindenufer on the Havel, the Neustadt, Stresow and the area around Bahnhof Spandau, plus the residential streets towards Wilhelmstadt and Falkenhagener Feld. Siemensstadt has a page of its own. Because Spandau is spread out, we would rather settle the exact street once over the phone than make a promise the round cannot keep: 030 64828209.

What is covered, from when, and by whom

Prescribed medical home nursing (Behandlungspflege) is paid for by the health insurer (Krankenkasse). The day that decides it is the day the surgery signs: if the Muster 12 reaches the insurer within three working days of being issued, the visits made while it is under review are covered retrospectively from the day of issue as well (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). Under § 61 SGB V, adults pay ten per cent of the daily cost for a maximum of 28 treatment days a year, plus ten euros per prescription (Verordnung); anyone who is exempt pays none of it.

With the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) it is the care level (Pflegegrad) that decides. Benefits in kind under § 36 SGB XI are available from Pflegegrad 2 upwards, for personal care (Grundpflege), housekeeping and companionship; at Pflegegrad 1 the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI remains. If care begins directly after a hospital stay, home nursing care is also possible as an interim solution. Whatever is left to pay yourself, we tell you after the free home visit — in writing and itemised separately.

From the phone call to the first early shift

  1. You tell us what is needed: One call to 030 64828209 is enough. Because Spandau is large, the street decides: give us the postcode and house number and we will say straight away whether your address lies on an existing round.
  2. A home visit, usually the same week: A qualified nurse looks at the bathroom, the stairwell and the access, and notes which tasks are needed at which time of day. The visit costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
  3. The Muster 12 goes off at once: We take the prescription (Verordnung) to the health insurer within three working days, so that cover starts on the day it was issued. If there is no Pflegegrad yet, we file the application with the Pflegekasse in parallel.
  4. The first shift rings your bell: You get firm times and a small, settled team; your named nurse comes along on the first visit.

From the Altstadt to Stresow

Which Spandau addresses do you serve?

The postcodes 13581 to 13599: the Altstadt with the Markt, Kolk and Behnitz, the Lindenufer, the Neustadt, Stresow and the station area, plus the residential streets towards Wilhelmstadt and Falkenhagener Feld. Siemensstadt has a page of its own. Whether your street is included is something we settle on the phone.

We are being discharged from the Klinikum Spandau — how quickly can this happen?

If the ward tells us about the discharge, we plan the first shift for the day after. What matters is that the prescription for home nursing care comes with you on discharge; we then take it to the insurer within three working days.

Do we have to wait for the insurer's approval?

No. Once the Muster 12 is signed, we may start. If the form reaches the health insurer by the third working day after that, it bears the cost retrospectively from the day of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). For personal care and companionship, by contrast, it is the Pflegegrad that decides.

Without a recognised care level — is anything still possible?

Behandlungspflege yes, it depends solely on the doctor's prescription. Personal care and companionship require an assessment: benefits in kind under § 36 SGB XI from Pflegegrad 2, and at Pflegegrad 1 the Entlastungsbetrag under § 45b SGB XI. We fill the application in together.

Aren't the distances in Spandau too great for fixed times?

They are longer than in Moabit, and that is precisely why we plan Spandau addresses into connected rounds along the Klosterstraße, Breite Straße and Falkenseer Chaussee axes. Anything we cannot drive reliably we turn down beforehand, rather than promise a time that then does not hold.

Where is the office, and do you work at night?

The nearest office is at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1, 14052 Berlin-Westend — by appointment only, please. Further offices: Heilbronner Str. 1 in Halensee and Sickingenstr. 52 in Moabit. We do not work nights.

Tell us the street, we will tell you the time

The phone: 030 64828209. Post goes to info@sonnenstrahlen-pflege.de. Give us the postcode and house number and you will know at once whether your address lies on a Spandau round. The visit to your home costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
