Home care in Schmargendorf: from Breite Straße to the Roseneck

A quiet district with an old population: 1920s housing estates on Warnemünder Straße, villas by the Hundekehlesee, the town hall on Berkaer Straße. We can take on new clients: 030 64828209.

Schmargendorf is one of those districts where the share of residents over eighty is well above the Berlin average — and that shows in the demand. People live in the 1920s housing courtyards around Warnemünder Straße and Misdroyer Straße, in the buildings on Breite Straße and at Cecilienplatz, in the villas between Hohenzollerndamm and the Hundekehle. Distances are moderate, the buildings manageable, and many ground-floor flats can be reached without steps. What counts here more often than elsewhere: one regular named carer who knows the same flat month after month.

The service is run by Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt), approved for care benefits in kind under SGB XI and for medically prescribed home nursing care under § 37 SGB V. If you are insured with a statutory fund, you get no bill from us; we settle directly with the health insurer (Krankenkasse) and the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse). Privately insured clients receive an itemised statement for their policy. We work in German, English and Russian, and we answer enquiries the same working day.

Schmargendorf is served from our office at Heilbronner Str. 1 in Halensee, a good three kilometres to the north. This page covers Schmargendorf only; Grunewald west of the Hundekehle, Wilmersdorf north of the Hohenzollerndamm and Dahlem have pages of their own.

What we do between Cecilienplatz and the Hundekehle

The early shift in a 1920s housing courtyard

Washing, dressing, the walk from bed to armchair. Many flats here are small and the bathroom is tight — at the home visit we look at whether a stool, a grab rail or a second appointment in the evening is the better answer.

Everything written on the Muster 12

Insulin to schedule, dressing changes, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, compression stockings from class II upwards, catheters and stoma care. If the practice at the Roseneck changes the order, we work to the new one from the next visit on.

Wound care at home

Ulcus cruris, pressure sores, sutures after an operation — treated at the prescribed interval and documented by size, wound edge and exudate. The trip to the surgery is no longer needed, and the documentation goes to the treating doctor.

Hours in which relatives are off duty

A walk to Cecilienplatz, company on a shopping trip along Breite Straße, someone to sit with in the afternoon. This is paid for out of the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI, which is available from care level (Pflegegrad) 1 onwards.

Where Schmargendorf begins and ends

Schmargendorf is mostly 14193 and 14199. We drive to Breite Straße, Cecilienplatz, Berkaer Straße with the town hall, the Roseneck on the Hohenzollerndamm, the estates on Warnemünder, Misdroyer and Reichenhaller Straße, and the houses down towards the Hundekehlesee. North of the Hohenzollerndamm Wilmersdorf begins, to the west Grunewald, to the south-east Dahlem and Steglitz — we cover the first three as well and they have pages of their own. Whether your street is on one of our rounds is settled in two minutes on the phone: 030 64828209.

What is covered, from when and by whom

Prescribed nursing care (Behandlungspflege) is paid for by the health insurer (Krankenkasse). The decisive day is the day of signature: if the Muster 12 reaches the insurer within three working days of being issued, the visits made while it is being assessed are covered retrospectively from the day of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). Under § 61 SGB V adults pay ten per cent of the daily cost for a maximum of 28 treatment days a year, plus ten euros per prescription (Verordnung); anyone who is exempt pays none of it.

With the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) the care level (Pflegegrad) decides. The benefits-in-kind budget under § 36 SGB XI is available from care level 2 for personal care, domestic help and companionship; at care level 1 the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI remains. What is left for you to pay yourself we say only after the free home visit — in writing, with the insurer's share and your own share shown separately.

From the phone call to the first early shift

  1. You tell us what is needed: A call to 030 64828209 is enough. With the street and house number it is immediately clear whether your address is still in Schmargendorf or already in Dahlem or Grunewald.
  2. A home visit, usually in the same week: A qualified nurse looks at the bathroom, the access and the entryphone and notes which tasks are needed at which time of day. The visit costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
  3. The Muster 12 goes off at once: We take the prescription (Verordnung) to the health insurer within three working days, so that cover starts on the day it was issued. If there is no care level (Pflegegrad) yet, we file the application with the long-term care insurance fund at the same time.
  4. The first shift rings your bell: You get firm times and a small, settled team; your named carer comes along on the first visit.

From Breite Straße to the Roseneck

Which Schmargendorf addresses do you visit regularly?

14193 and 14199: Breite Straße, Cecilienplatz, Berkaer Straße, the Roseneck, the estates on Warnemünder, Misdroyer and Reichenhaller Straße, and the streets down towards the Hundekehlesee. Wilmersdorf, Grunewald and Dahlem have pages of their own and are covered as well.

Will we always get the same carer?

A regular named carer, yes; the same person on every single day, no — holidays, illness and weekends make that impossible. But the team around you stays small and does not keep changing, and the first shift is always attended by your named carer.

Do we have to wait for the insurer's approval?

No. As soon as the practice has signed the Muster 12 we may start. If the form reaches the health insurer by the third working day after that, the insurer covers the costs retrospectively from the day of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). This does not apply to personal care and companionship — there the care level (Pflegegrad) decides.

Without a recognised care level — is anything possible?

Prescribed nursing care (Behandlungspflege) yes, it depends solely on the doctor's order. Personal care and companionship require an assessment: benefits in kind under § 36 SGB XI from care level 2, and at care level 1 the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI. We fill in the application together with you and tell you beforehand what the Medizinischer Dienst will ask about.

Do you also carry out the advisory visit under § 37.3?

Yes. Anyone drawing the care allowance (Pflegegeld) has to provide evidence of this visit every six months or every three months, depending on the care level. We come to your home for the appointment, complete the record and, if you wish, send it straight to the long-term care insurance fund.

Where is the office, and do you work at night?

Your care is planned at Heilbronner Str. 1, 10711 Berlin-Halensee, a good three kilometres to the north — by appointment only, please. There are further offices at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 in Westend and at Sickingenstr. 52 in Moabit. We do not work nights.
