Home care in Friedenau: nursing care around Perelsplatz

Late-19th-century blocks inside the Carstenn-Figur street grid: narrow stairwells, high ceilings, rarely a lift — and many people who have lived there for forty years. We are able to take on new clients: 030 64828209.

Friedenau was laid out on a drawing board and still shows it: the Carstenn-Figur street grid around Perelsplatz, the closed block edges of the Gründerzeit era, front gardens in between. Most people live in pre-war flats, often on the third or fourth floor with no lift, and the population is older on average than in the neighbouring districts. For care that means two things: short distances between addresses, but a great many stairs. Both are written into our round planning, so that the time we promise is the time we actually arrive.

The provider is Sonnenstrahlen Pflege UG (haftungsbeschränkt), approved for care benefits in kind under SGB XI and for doctor-prescribed home nursing care under § 37 SGB V. People with statutory insurance receive no bill from us; we settle directly with the health insurer (Krankenkasse) and the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse). Privately insured clients receive an itemised list of the visits made, for their own policy. We work in German, English and Russian, and we answer enquiries on the same working day.

Friedenau lies in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg borough and therefore at the south-eastern edge of our area. This page covers Friedenau only; Schöneberg north of the railway has a page of its own.

What we cover between Breslauer Platz and Rheinstraße

The early shift in a pre-war building

Washing at the basin or in the shower, dressing, the walk from bed to armchair. Four floors without a lift is everyday life in Friedenau — it costs time, and that time is in the plan rather than missing from it afterwards.

Everything written on the Muster 12

Insulin to schedule, dressing changes, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, compression stockings from class II upwards, catheters and stoma care. Because the addresses lie close together, two or three visits a day can be planned as well.

Wound care instead of a trip to the surgery

Ulcus cruris, pressure sores, sutures after an operation — treated at the prescribed interval and documented by size, wound edge and exudate. That removes any reason to go down four flights of stairs.

Hours when relatives are off duty

A walk around Perelsplatz, company on a shopping trip along Bundesallee or Rheinstraße, someone to sit with in the afternoon. This is paid from the relief amount (Entlastungsbetrag) under § 45b SGB XI, which is available from care level (Pflegegrad) 1 onwards.

Three postcodes in one grid

Friedenau carries 12159, 12161 and 12163. We drive to Breslauer Platz, Perelsplatz, Niedstraße and Stubenrauchstraße, Renée-Sintenis-Platz, Rheinstraße, Bundesallee as far as Walther-Schreiber-Platz, and the streets around the Friedhof Stubenrauchstraße cemetery. North of the Ringbahn, Schöneberg begins; to the south, Steglitz — we serve Schöneberg as well and cover it on a page of its own. Whether your street is on one of our rounds takes two minutes to settle on the phone: 030 64828209.

What is covered, from when and by whom

Prescribed medical home nursing (Behandlungspflege) is paid for by the health insurer (Krankenkasse). What counts is the day the practice signs: if the Muster 12 reaches the insurer within three working days of being issued, the visits made while it is being assessed are covered retrospectively from the day of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). Under § 61 SGB V, adults pay ten per cent of the daily cost for a maximum of 28 treatment days a year and ten euros per prescription (Verordnung); anyone who is exempt pays none of it.

With the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse), the care level (Pflegegrad) decides. The benefits-in-kind budget under § 36 SGB XI is available from care level 2 for personal care, housekeeping and companionship; at care level 1, the Entlastungsbetrag under § 45b SGB XI remains. Whatever is left to pay yourself we state only after the free home visit — in writing, with the insurer's share and your own share shown separately.

From the first call to the first early shift

  1. You tell us what is needed: One call to 030 64828209 is enough. With the street and house number it is immediately clear whether your address is still in Friedenau or already in Steglitz.
  2. A home visit, usually in the same week: A qualified nurse looks at the bathroom, the stairwell and the entryphone, and notes which tasks are needed at which time of day. The visit costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
  3. The Muster 12 goes off at once: We take the prescription (Verordnung) to the health insurer within three working days, so that cover starts on the day it was issued. If there is no care level yet, we file the application with the Pflegekasse at the same time.
  4. The first shift rings your bell: You are given firm times and a small, fixed team; your named nurse comes along on the first visit.

From Perelsplatz to Niedstraße

Which Friedenau addresses do you visit regularly?

12159, 12161 and 12163: Breslauer Platz, Perelsplatz, Niedstraße, Stubenrauchstraße, Renée-Sintenis-Platz, Rheinstraße, Bundesallee as far as Walther-Schreiber-Platz, and Handjerystraße. Schöneberg north of the Ringbahn has a page of its own.

Fourth floor, no lift — will you still come?

Yes. In Friedenau that is the rule, not a reason to say no. What matters is access to the flat: a key with relatives, a key safe by the front door, or a working entryphone. Once that is settled, the agreed time holds.

Do we have to wait for the insurer's approval?

No. Once the practice has signed the Muster 12, we may start. If the form reaches the health insurer by the third working day after that, the insurer covers the cost retrospectively from the day of issue (§ 6 Abs. 6 HKP-Richtlinie). This does not apply to personal care and companionship — there the care level decides.

Without a recognised care level — is anything still possible?

Medical home nursing (Behandlungspflege) yes; it depends solely on the doctor's prescription. Personal care and companionship require an assessment: benefits in kind under § 36 SGB XI from care level 2, and at care level 1 the Entlastungsbetrag under § 45b SGB XI. We fill in the application together with you and tell you beforehand what the Medizinischer Dienst will ask about.

Do you also carry out the advisory visit under § 37.3?

Yes. Anyone drawing care allowance (Pflegegeld) has to provide evidence of this visit every six months or every three months, depending on the care level. We come to the home for the appointment, complete the record and, if you wish, send it straight to the Pflegekasse.

Where is the office, and do you work at night?

Your care is planned at Heilbronner Str. 1, 10711 Berlin-Halensee — by appointment only, please. There are further offices at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1 in Westend and at Sickingenstr. 52 in Moabit. We do not work nights.
